    El Ministerio de Economía y Finanzas (MEF) no sólo se reunió la semana pasada con las agencias calificadoras de riesgo estadounidenses Fitch Ratings y Moody´s Investors Service, sino también con la canadiense DBRS.
    “La mayoría de los países latinoamericanos usan a DBRS en adición a Fitch, Moody’s y S&P. Estamos evaluando incluirla como otra calificadora para Panamá”, confirmó a Capital el viceministro de Finanzas, Dulcidio De La Guardia."
    DBRS, que fue fundada en 1976 y tiene sede en Toronto y oficinas en Nueva York y Chicago, es una firma internacional con alcance global, muy buena reputación y destacada trayectoria en este tipo de trabajos, opina el gerente general de la agencia calificadora Equilibrium, Ernesto Bazán.
    Respecto a los avances de las reuniones que han sostenido hasta el momento en Estados Unidos (EE.UU.) y México, en el marco de su gira oficial, el ministro de Economía y Finanzas, Alberto Vallarino, y el viceministro calificaron de “fructíferas” los contactos que tuvieron con representantes de Fitch Ratings, a los que presentaron el impacto del Plan de Desarrollo 2010-2014 y el alcance de la reforma tributaria recientemente aprobada.
    También entablaron negociaciones con ejecutivos de la banca y finanzas de ambos países, presentaron las perspectivas económicas del país a más de 60 inversionistas y se reunieron con Black Rock, Morgan Stanley y Goldman Sachs, tres importantes administradores de inversiones del Fondo Fiduciario para el Desarrollo.
    “En la agenda de trabajo de los altos funcionarios panameños en EE.UU. también se incluyeron reuniones con altos directivos del Bank of New York, de Tokio Mitsubishi, el Japan Bank for International, el Banco Europeo de Inversiones y con el Fondo de Desarrollo de la OPEP, entre otros”, acotaron los voceros gubernamentales.
    Ambos funcionarios están participando hoy en la Asamblea del Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID), que se está realizando en Cancún, y en el proceso de aumento de capital de esa entidad financiera multilateral.
    “Vale destacar que tanto en Nueva York como en México las autoridades panameñas apuntalaron las aspiraciones de Panamá de alcanzar el Grado de Inversión que le permitirá al país ingentes beneficios como mayor inversión extranjera, menores tasas de interés para sus créditos y el fortalecimiento del sistema financiero internacional de Panamá. Actualmente Panamá está a sólo un punto por debajo del Grado de Inversión de acuerdo a las tres principales calificadoras de riesgo a nivel mundial”, acotó el MEF
